What to wear and not to wear? That is the question…

When we are invited to a wedding, the first thing that comes to our mind is: what am I going to wear? – especially women. There are lots and lots of options, dresses and jumpsuits, skirts and tops, but not everything is appropriate for this kind of event and that’s what our week’s post is about. We’ll give you some tips about what you should and shouldn’t wear when you go to a wedding.

Rule #1 – Never wear jeans

Jeans are not appropriate for a wedding ever. Not even if it’s dark jeans and a blazer. Men should wear a suit.

Rule #2 – Don’t wear white or black clothes

Unless the bride says she won’t wear a white dress or she says that white is the dress code, you should not wear it. The only people “allowed” to do it is her mother or sister. Any other kind of white like nude, beige, cream, etc, should not be worn either. Plus, wearing black at a wedding is associated with mourning and funerals, so it’s also not appropriate to wear it either.

Rule #3 – Don’t wear sandals

Women usually wear sandals at weddings because most of them occur during spring/summer time, but everyone should use shoes with their feet covered. Also, all the ladies should wear pantyhose, either the dress is short or long.

Rule #4 – Long dress or short dress?

It’s true that long dresses sometimes look better than short ones, but protocol says that the later the ceremony, the longer the dress. So, if the ceremony is in the morning, you should wear a short dress – by the knee. If it’s after 3 pm, it can go a little longer. And if it’s in the early evening, now you’re free to wear a long dress.

Rule #5 – You’re not the center of attention

Avoid garish reds, pinks, oranges or any colors that capt the attention from the bride, including sequined dresses as well. It’s the bride who’s supposed to shine. Also, you should not wear low cut clothing because it might look a little disrespectful to the B&G, besides capting the attention from the bride.

Wedding season has already begun and we want you all to look beautiful at the weddings you’re attending. Remember that less is more, so you can choose an elegant look with the perfect combination of dress/suit and shoes, and some accessories to give you that little touch to your look- but do not exaggerate, otherwise, you’ll probably end up looking like a Christmas tree. Last but not least, don’t forget to do your hair, even if it’s just a lovely ponytail to match your clothes!

Lots of love.
