Palácio Virtvs

About this venue

Some palaces impress by their scale; others win you over with detail. The Palácio Virtvs is firmly the second kind: a 19th-century townhouse palace in central Lisbon where everything — the silk on the walls, the stuccoes, the ceiling frescoes — was made to be looked at closely.

Built in the 19th century by the Italian architect César Janz as a family home, in a revivalist style, it now hosts around 100 seated guests and up to 200 for a cocktail. Its damask-silk salons open onto a terrace with views over the city and a garden with azulejo panels and a decorative pool.

It is a venue for those who prefer intimacy to a crowd — a wedding that fits entirely inside one beautiful house, without losing anything in refinement.

History

The palace was born in the 19th century, in a Lisbon where the well-to-do bourgeoisie commissioned houses that mirrored their taste and standing. César Janz, an Italian architect, designed it in a revivalist style — the language of the day for those who wanted to quote the past with confidence.

The damask-silk salons, the decorative stuccoes and the ceiling frescoes are what remains of that ambition, and what gives the space its character. Little here is neutral; almost everything was placed with intent.

Today the Palácio Virtvs operates with partner caterers, such as Casa da Comida and Casa do Marquês, who add the culinary side. If you ask us, it is one of the Lisbon spaces where marrying feels most like hosting at home — only in a 19th-century home.

About the Location

We are right in the city of Lisbon, on Rua Júlio de Andrade, a few minutes from the Avenida da Liberdade and the centre. It is a discreet address, but a central one.

For guests, that means convenience: the airport is under 20 minutes away and hotels are on the doorstep. There is limited parking on site and a public car park 100 metres away.

From the terrace, the view opens over the rooftops of Lisbon — the kind of backdrop that gives late-afternoon photographs the air of a whole city looking on.

Weddings at Palácio Virtvs

A wedding at the Virtvs plays on two registers: the sumptuous, enclosed interior of the silk-and-fresco salons; and the lighter exterior of the terrace and the azulejo garden with its decorative pool. The civil or symbolic ceremony takes place outdoors, the dinner inside.

The capacity — around 100 seated and up to 200 for a cocktail — places it firmly in the territory of intimate and mid-sized weddings, where every guest counts and the space never feels too big. It is the opposite of the impersonal ballroom.

The kitchen works with partner caterers such as Casa da Comida, settling the catering from the outset with names Lisbon knows well. Pop the question. We handle the rest.

What Mary Me Unlocks

In a townhouse where everything is seen up close, our job is to protect the intimacy without losing grip on the machine. At a hundred-guest wedding in a 19th-century house, every detail counts — the rhythm between the salons and the terrace, the right number of tables, the moment you move inside.

The most thankless logistics here is parking — limited to a few cars, with a public car park a hundred metres away. We solve it with transfers and pickups planned so guests arrive without circling the neighbourhood.

At the intimate scale the space calls for, we adapt whatever is needed: a mehndi in a silk-lined salon, a symbolic ceremony in the azulejo garden, a menu agreed with the house’s partner caterers. Always without filling the space beyond what it carries with elegance.

The paperwork and the sound curfew of a residential area, we handle. What’s left on your side is a beautiful house filled only with the right people.
