Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia

About this venue

Imagine marrying literally on top of Port wine cellars with centuries of history. That is what the Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia offers: a five-star hotel, opened in 2025, built over the centuries-old Kopke cellars — the oldest Port wine house in the world, founded in 1638 — on the hillside of Gaia, with Porto and the Douro at its feet.

The property stretches across terraces that mimic the Douro vineyards, with nine thousand square metres of gardens, a rooftop over the river, the Tivoli Spa, and gastronomy signed by Nacho Manzano, a chef with three Michelin stars. Weddings take place in the gardens, in the banquet hall, or on the rooftop, with the Luis I Bridge and the Ribeira as the backdrop.

For couples who want a city wedding with the soul of Port wine and the reliability of a five-star, this is a perfect spot. If you ask us, it is one of the most exciting addresses opening in Gaia.

History

The Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia was born of the restoration of the centuries-old Kopke cellars, the oldest Port wine house in the world, founded in 1638. Rather than erasing that heritage, the hotel built itself around it: the historic cellar, with dozens of barrels where more than two million litres of Kopke wine age, is part of the building itself.

Opened in 2025, it joins the hospitality of Tivoli Hotels & Resorts to the prestige of Kopke. The property stretches across twenty thousand square metres of terraces that evoke the Douro vineyards, organised into three areas — Vintage, Tawny, and White — and is also a cultural hub, with Domingos Alvao’s photography collection telling the story of the Douro along the hallways.

If you ask us, what sets the Tivoli Kopke apart is the depth of history allied to the newness of the space. It is a just-opened hotel, but resting on nearly four hundred years of Port wine. Few places in the world marry the two like this.

About the Location

We are in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south hillside of the Douro, in the heart of the old Port wine cellar district — today one of the city’s most vibrant wine and gastronomy destinations, with the WOW cultural district and the Serra do Pilar a few steps away. Across the river is historic Porto, listed by UNESCO.

The great advantage is the view with heritage. Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport is about twenty-five minutes away, and the Ribeira a short crossing of the Luis I Bridge — there is even a restored pedestrian path, the Caminho Romantico, linking the hotel gardens directly to Gaia’s riverside and the bridge. Convenient for an international group that wants the city and the river at the same address.

Around it is the whole of Porto and Gaia for a day-after — cellars, cruises, the Foz, the WOW — at the door. The Tivoli Kopke is a riverside, scenic base for a city destination wedding.

Weddings at Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel

The Tivoli Kopke’s great advantage is the choice of settings, all with a view and heritage, in the structure of a five-star. Civil and symbolic ceremonies take place in the nine thousand square metres of terraced gardens, outdoors, with Porto in the background — and there is the rare option of an intimate ceremony or cocktail inside the Kopke cellar itself, among the barrels.

Dinner and the party set up in the banquet hall, outdoors in the gardens, or on the rooftop over the river, each unique in its own way. The gastronomy is a serious argument: the banquet menus are overseen by Nacho Manzano, a chef with three Michelin stars, with Iberian cuisine and the Douro wines and Kopke Ports doing the rest.

As a hotel of 150 rooms, the group sleeps in the house itself, with the option of a full buyout, and the wedding stretches into a weekend of city and wine. We know Porto and Gaia deeply. The couple’s session winds across the terraced gardens, the rooftop, and the historic Kopke cellar. Pop the question. We handle the rest.

What Mary Me Unlocks

The value we add is to represent you, independently, and to orchestrate everything that links the hotel to the Porto and Gaia around it. We handle the transfers from the airport, the management of the room blocks across the 150 rooms, with overflow at neighbouring Gaia hotels when the list is larger, and the arrival sequencing. Porto and Gaia are our home, so the programme for guests — cellars, Douro cruises, the WOW, the Foz — comes to us naturally, and a Kopke Port tasting in the cellar itself is a moment hard to beat. And there is the practical side: liaison with the Gaia and Porto churches for the Catholic ceremony, the council permit for fireworks over the Douro, sound curfew, civil-ceremony paperwork in Portuguese, and the wine tastings in the Kopke cellar for guests. From the first call to the last dance.
