Palácio Beau Sejour

About this venue

Palácio Beau Sejour is an 1849 palacete, with Art Nouveau lines, in Sao Domingos de Benfica — one of those hidden Lisbon treasures few people know exist. Surrounded by gardens, with the serene elegance of a 19th-century noble residence, it’s a setting of rare beauty for a celebration.

It’s a space with an important particularity: it belongs to Lisbon City Council, and access for events is by municipal authorization. It’s not a commercial venue with open doors — it’s a historic palacete whose use is exceptional, and that’s precisely where our experience becomes decisive.

For couples who want a historic-palacete wedding, discreet and off the usual circuit, this is the spot. If you ask us, it’s one of the best-kept secrets in Lisbon.

History

Palácio Beau Sejour was built in 1849, in then-rural Sao Domingos de Benfica, as a noble pleasure house — the former Quinta das Campainhas, also known as Quinta do Beau-Sejour. The French name says it all about the place’s vocation: a beautiful retreat on the edge of the city, surrounded by gardens.

Today, the palacete belongs to Lisbon City Council and houses the Gabinete de Estudos Olisiponenses, dedicated to the city’s history. It keeps its 19th-century lines and gardens, and its use for celebrations is occasional and subject to authorization — which makes it as special as it is demanding in logistical terms.

If you ask us, there are palaces open for business and palaces that are won with patience and know-how. Beau Sejour is clearly the second kind.

About the Location

We’re in Sao Domingos de Benfica, in inner Lisbon, in a green, residential area — a few minutes from the centre and about fifteen minutes from the airport. It’s a historic, quiet corner of the city, away from the tourist bustle, but with all of Lisbon’s infrastructure at hand.

The advantage for a destination wedding is discreet centrality: guests stay in the middle of Lisbon, with hotels, restaurants, and monuments close, but the celebration happens in a secluded historic garden.

Anything the guests might want to do — explore Lisbon, a day in Sintra or Cascais — is at hand. Arriving is easy. Leaving — we can’t quite guarantee that part.

Weddings at Palácio Beau Sejour

Palácio Beau Sejour is a historic-palacete wedding, intimate and out of the ordinary. The civil or symbolic ceremony takes place in the 19th-century gardens or the noble rooms; the cocktail spreads across the garden; dinner settles in the palacete’s spaces or in an outdoor structure, and the celebration has the seclusion of a place few people know.

As a municipal space, it has no in-house catering or accommodation, and access is by authorization — which means everything, from the permit to the suppliers, has to be built from scratch. That’s exactly the kind of operation we’re good at.

It’s a venue that favours history and discreet exclusivity over convenience — ideal for couples who want an authentic palacete away from the commercial circuit. And this is exactly where our experience comes in. The couple’s session winds through the 19th-century gardens, the Art Nouveau facade, and the noble rooms of a rarely accessible municipal palacete. Pop the question. We handle the rest.

What Mary Me Unlocks

This is precisely where a planner stops being optional — without permits, suppliers, and logistics built from scratch, there is no wedding.

Because everything here is built from scratch, a multicultural wedding is simply another design brief we relish. The 19th-century gardens take a Hindu ceremony or a symbolic rite from another tradition well, and we assemble the halal, Chinese-banquet, or Jain vegetarian catering with our suppliers, alongside the pandits and officiants used to Lisbon.

We handle the authorization and the paperwork with the Council, the complete build-out of catering, furniture, and structure in a space with no infrastructure of its own, the management of the room blocks at the Lisbon hotels, and the transfers from the airport, fifteen minutes away. And there’s the practical side: the sound permits in a municipal space, the civil-ceremony paperwork in Portuguese, and a programme of Lisbon, Sintra, and Cascais for the guests. From the first call to the last dance.
