Quinta Nova do Hespanhol

About this venue

Quinta Nova do Hespanhol is an ancestral family property in Gradil, recognisable by its traditional muted-yellow facade, surrounded by vineyards and gardens. It’s sophisticated and elegant, but with a rustic touch that keeps it warm — one of those estates that feel more like a family home than an event venue.

Available on a full-buyout basis, it hosts up to eighty guests across its banquet halls, interior courtyard, terrace, and gardens. The team — Ana, Maria, Sílvia, and company — is known for handling everything with the hand of someone hosting in their own home.

For couples who want an intimate, countryside wedding without the spectacle of a large venue, this is the spot. If you ask us, it’s the definition of rustic elegance near Lisbon.

History

Quinta Nova do Hespanhol is a family wine estate in Gradil, in the municipality of Mafra — one of those country manors, with a yellow facade and an interior courtyard, that punctuate the rural landscape north of Lisbon. The vineyards around it aren’t decoration: they’re part of the house’s story.

Over the years it has been adapted to host celebrations, but without losing its character: exposed wood beams, white walls, halls with soul, and well-kept gardens. It’s rural authenticity with refinement, not a backdrop built from scratch.

If you ask us, there are estates that dress up as countryside and estates that are genuinely countryside. Hespanhol is clearly the second kind.

About the Location

We’re in Gradil, in the municipality of Mafra, in the heart of the rural landscape north of Lisbon — vineyards, gentle hills, and the silence of the countryside, about thirty-five minutes from the airport. It’s close enough to be convenient, rural enough to feel like another world.

The advantage for a destination wedding is that discreet proximity: we’re half an hour from Lisbon and the coast, with Sintra, Mafra, and Ericeira a short distance off, but surrounded by nature and quiet.

Anything the guests might want to do — a day in Lisbon, Sintra, the Ericeira beach — is at hand. Arriving is easy. Leaving — we can’t quite guarantee that part.

Weddings at Quinta Nova do Hespanhol

Quinta Nova do Hespanhol is an intimate, countryside wedding. The civil or symbolic ceremony takes place in the gardens, with the vineyards behind; the cocktail spreads across the interior courtyard and the terrace; dinner settles in the banquet halls, with exposed beams, and the party runs into the night.

On a full-buyout basis, with a capacity of up to eighty guests, the estate is the right scale for those who prefer a personal, warm celebration to a large event. The spaces, versatile and well decorated, adapt to your style, and the house team is part of the charm.

It’s a venue that favours intimacy and rural character over scale — ideal for couples who want countryside, vineyards, and proximity to Lisbon. And this is exactly where our experience comes in. The couple’s session winds through the yellow-facade courtyard, the exposed-beam halls, and the vineyards of rural Mafra. Pop the question. We handle the rest.

What Mary Me Unlocks

An intimate, family estate like this, with its dedicated team, is exactly where our coordination bridges the gap with international guests discovering the Portuguese countryside for the first time. We handle the design of the day in coordination with the house team, the management of the lodging in the area — since the room capacity is limited — and the transfers from Lisbon airport, thirty-five minutes away. And there’s the practical side: the civil-ceremony paperwork in Portuguese, the sound permits, and a programme of Lisbon, Sintra, and Ericeira for the guests. From the first call to the last dance.
