Estufa Fria is one of Lisbon’s most stunning venues — a monumental greenhouse at the top of Parque Eduardo VII, in the very centre of the city, sheltering hundreds of botanical species from around the world. Creeks, lakes, waterfalls, stone walkways, and lush greenery make it a hidden botanical paradise under open skies.
With a hectare and a half of gardens under cover, it’s the antithesis of the event hall: the ceremony takes place by the lake, among ferns, palms, and flowers, and the party happens surrounded by nature in the heart of Lisbon. It’s classic or boho-chic, depending on how you dress it.
For couples who want a botanical, romantic, out-of-the-ordinary wedding without leaving the city, this is the spot. If you ask us, it’s the most beautiful secret garden in Lisbon.
No accommodation on-site. Mary Me coordinates room blocks at the Avenida da Liberdade hotels, a few minutes’ walk away, and handles the family-by-family allocation and transfers from the airport.
Estufa Fria opened in 1933, conceived and designed by the architect Raul Carapinha, in a former basalt quarry abandoned after a spring was discovered. In 1945, it was remodelled at the same time as Parque Eduardo VII, by Keil do Amaral, who added the porch, the lake at the entrance, and the great nave.
In 1975, the Estufa Quente and Estufa Doce sections opened, with tropical and equatorial plants. At a hectare and a half, the complex brings together three distinct greenhouses, lakes, waterfalls, and hundreds of species. It belongs to Lisbon City Council, and its operation for events is handled exclusively by Casa do Marquês.
If you ask us, there are venues that imitate nature and venues that are genuinely nature. Estufa Fria is clearly the second kind.
We’re in Parque Eduardo VII, in the very centre of Lisbon, at the top of Avenida da Liberdade — a few minutes from Marquês de Pombal, the hotels, and everything the city offers, and about fifteen minutes from the airport. It’s lush nature with the city at the door.
The advantage for a destination wedding is unique: a lush botanical setting with no journey at all — guests stay in hotels a few minutes’ walk away, and the celebration happens in a hidden garden in the heart of Lisbon.
Anything the guests might want to do — explore Lisbon, Belém, a day in Sintra or Cascais — is at hand. Arriving is easy. Leaving — we can’t quite guarantee that part.
Estufa Fria is a botanical wedding in the heart of the city. The civil or symbolic ceremony takes place by the lake, among the lush vegetation; the cocktail spreads across the trails, waterfalls, and green corners; dinner settles in the great nave or among the plants, and the party happens surrounded by nature, with the greenhouse lit.
The versatility is enormous: three greenhouses, lakes, and walkways give multiple settings, and the scale allows everything from intimate weddings to large celebrations. It’s classic or boho-chic, depending on the décor — the greenery does the rest.
It’s a venue that favours nature, romance, and botanical character over neutrality — ideal for couples who want an exotic garden without leaving Lisbon. And this is exactly where our experience comes in. The couple’s session moves by the lake, along the greenhouse trails, and among the waterfalls and hundreds of botanical species. Pop the question. We handle the rest.
This is precisely where a planner’s coordination makes the difference — linking the operation, the permits, and the suppliers in a botanical garden takes experience. We handle the design of the day in coordination with Casa do Marquês, the management of the room blocks at the Avenida da Liberdade hotels — since the greenhouse has no accommodation — and the transfers from the airport, fifteen minutes away. And there’s the practical side: the sound permits in a municipal, botanical space, the civil-ceremony paperwork in Portuguese, and a programme of Lisbon, Belém, Sintra, and Cascais for the guests. From the first call to the last dance.
It’s a versatile space that hosts everything from intimate weddings to large celebrations, spread across the three greenhouses and the gardens. The exact capacity for your format is confirmed with the operator.
It’s a municipal garden with public access and exclusive operation by Casa do Marquês; exclusivity for your wedding is confirmed case by case. Mary Me coordinates the terms and the municipal conditions.
The events operation is handled exclusively by Casa do Marquês, which coordinates the catering. Mary Me aligns the menu and the details.
No — the greenhouse has no accommodation. Mary Me coordinates the room blocks at the Avenida da Liberdade hotels, a few minutes’ walk away, and handles the transfers.

As a covered, sheltered space, it works all year round — the vegetation is always green. Spring and autumn are ideal. We recommend booking in advance.
