Quinta de Mosteirô

About this venue

There are places the monks chose for rest — and you can see why. The Quinta de Mosteiro, on the right bank of the Douro, in Marco de Canaveses, was built by the Monastery of Alpendurada precisely as a place of repose for the friars. Today it is an events quinta where the main argument is still the same: the landscape and the calm of the river.

It is two buildings with direct access to the Douro, gardens, a swimming pool, a tennis court, and rural-tourism lodging in the house itself. The view over the river and the sunset are, according to those who married there, among the most memorable in the north. It hosts weddings on an exclusive-use basis, up to 300 guests.

For couples who want a riverside wedding, with history, a view, and the guests sleeping on-site, this is a perfect spot. If you ask us, it is a magical hidden corner of the Douro.

Accomodations

The Quinta de Mosteiro offers rural-tourism lodging on the quinta itself, with quality guest rooms, which allows the couple and part of the guests to sleep on-site — a significant practical advantage at a riverside wedding. There is also a pool, a tennis court, and a games room for the leisure moments. For larger groups, Mary Me coordinates the overflow at neighbouring hotels in Marco de Canaveses and Amarante, handling the family-by-family allocation and the transfers.

History

The Quinta de Mosteiro has a rare origin: it was built by the Monastery of Alpendurada, so that the friars could enjoy the farm as a place of rest and seclusion, on the right bank of the Douro. That vocation for calm and contemplation was inscribed in the place and never left it.

Over time, the quinta became a space for events and rural tourism, preserving the original character and architectural atmosphere. Today it has two buildings, gardens, a pool, a tennis court, and lodging rooms, but what defines the experience is still the relationship with the river.

If you ask us, what sets the Quinta de Mosteiro apart is the monastic origin allied to the view. Few quintas on the Douro have direct access to the water and a sunset like this. The friars knew what they were doing.

About the Location

We are in Sande e Sao Lourenco do Douro, in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses, on the right bank of the Douro river — a green landscape of slopes, vines, and preserved villages, between the Douro Litoral and the northern hinterland. It is proper riverside countryside, far from the bustle, but well served by access.

The great advantage is the river at the door. Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport is about forty-five minutes away, and Porto, Amarante, and the Douro wine country a short distance off — which makes the Quinta de Mosteiro convenient for an international group that wants the Douro landscape without straying too far from the arrival points.

Around it is the Douro, Amarante, Porto, and the Serra da Aboboreira for a day-after. The Quinta de Mosteiro is a riverside, tranquil base for a destination wedding in the north.

Weddings at Quinta de Mosteirô

The Quinta de Mosteiro’s great advantage is the relationship with the river, on an exclusive-use basis. Civil and symbolic ceremonies take place outdoors, in the gardens over the Douro, with the sunset making the setting; and the cocktail flows by the river, with the direct access to the water allowing moments that few quintas offer. There is also a pool, a tennis court, and a games room for the guests’ leisure.

Dinner and the party set up in the quinta’s two buildings, with the house serving its own catering, and capacity for up to 300 guests. The service and the food are, according to those who married there, among the most praised points — alongside the view, which nobody forgets.

And there is the trump card: with rural-tourism lodging on the quinta itself, the couple and part of the guests can sleep on-site, and the wedding stretches into a river weekend. We know the north deeply. The couple’s session moves over the Douro at golden hour with direct river access. Pop the question. We handle the rest.

What Mary Me Unlocks

The value we add is to represent you, independently, and to orchestrate everything that links the quinta to the Douro, Amarante, and Porto around it. We handle the transfers from the airport (forty-five minutes away) and, although the quinta has its own lodging, the liaison with neighbouring hotels for the overflow when the list is larger, and the arrival sequencing of an international group. And there is the practical side: liaison with the Marco de Canaveses and surrounding churches for the Catholic ceremony, the council permit for fireworks over the Douro, the sound curfew, the civil-ceremony paperwork in Portuguese, and the Douro and Amarante programme for guests who stay on. From the first call to the last dance.
